A closer look at Open Farm

When choosing a new food for their fur family members, every pet parent should ask themselves two key questions:

1. Is it safe?

2. Is it healthy?

Let's look at the first question: Is it safe?

While no product is impervious to the risk of potential contaminants or manufacturing errors, Open Farm goes above and beyond to ensure that each and every batch is tested by an independent third party laboratory prior to leaving the factory to ensure it is nutritionally complete and free from contaminants such as heavy metals foodbourne bacteria such as Salmonella and mycotoxins. The results of these tests can be viewed on the Open Farm website using the code on each pack.

In addition, with the ongoing investigation over the last few years into a potential link between grain free dog food and heart disease, Open Farm has taken the precaution of adding taurine to their grain free recipes and offering legume free alternatives.

Ok, second question: Is it healthy?

Healthy can mean a lot of things to different people, but in essence, a healthy diet keeps your pet looking and feeling well and meets all their nutritional needs. Open Farm recipes are carefully formulated by team of experts in the field, including an Animal Nutritionist who holds a Master Degree in Animal Science, Formulation and Animal Nutrition and a PHD Food Scientist, and all meet the AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) requirements for either growth or maintenance, depending of the target lifestage of the product. This means the recipes contain complete and balanced nutrition to keep your pet in good health.

Open Farm recipes are also conciously formulated to be free of uneccessary ingredients including artificial colours and flavours, alongside starchy carbohydrate sources often found in grain free foods such as corn, sugar and tapioca starch.

With those two questions answered, there are some additional features to Open Farm which set them apart including ethical ingredient sourcing, traceability of ingredients and a commitment to environmental sustainability

Ethical ingredient sourcing

Open Farm uses ethically sourced ingredients and partners with family farms that raise their animals with kindness and respect. That's a win-win for all of our four-legged friends - a higher quality of life for farm animals, also means higher quality ingredients for your pet.

Transparency & traceability

Open Farm is fully transparent with both suppliers and customers. Every single ingredient in your bag of Open Farm pet food can be traced right back to its source, so you never have to wonder about whether you're giving your pet the very best. You can use the code on each pack to view the ingredient sources used on the Open Farm website.

Sustainability

Did you know over 95% of pet food bags are considered un-recyclable? That's why Open Farm created an innovative bag recycling program to help manage their environmental footprint. With the Open Farm Packaging Recycling Program, Open Farm provides a free and easy way to recycle their bags into new up-cycled products. You can sign up with Terracycle and start saving packs to recycle straight away.
