Discover information on the latest changes to Royal Canin Veterinary Diet products, including discontinued lines and their recommended replacements.
The following article provides an overview of upcoming changes to Royal Canin Veterinary Diet products. These updates reflect Royal Canin's ongoing commitment to improving nutritional formulations, and include the introduction of new products replacing existing lines.
Royal Canin Exigent Update
Royal Canin is combining two picky-eater diets, Savour Exigent and Aroma Exigent, into one new product: ROYAL CANIN® Exigent. The reformulated kibble is designed to maximise taste and texture, so it's easier to keep even picky cats interested at mealtimes.
- Poultry-based recipe - rich in high-quality protein and fat for palatability
- Healthy weight maintenance - complete, balanced nutrition alongside the taste upgrade
With any dietary change, a gradual transition over 7-10 days is recommended to minimise the risk of digestive upset. Please refer to the transition guidance section below.

Royal Canin Feline Manufacturing Update
Some Royal Canin Kitten, Ragdoll and Dental Care dry cat food is temporarily being made at Royal Canin's Aimargues factory in France, instead of its usual home at the Gimje factory in South Korea, while Gimje brings new production lines online. Production is expected to return to Gimje in early 2027.
- Same recipe - this is a manufacturing change, not a diet change
- Minor label updates - ingredient sourcing shifts slightly with the factory, so you may notice small updates to the ingredient list on pack
New-origin stock is expected on shelves from around August–September 2026. There's nothing you need to do - this is a behind-the-scenes change, not a product switch.
Royal Canin Diabetic Diet Update
Royal Canin is updating the Diabetic Dry Dog Food range to the new and improved Royal Canin Glycobalance product. The new formula delivers all the same benefits your dog relies on, with an optimised recipe including:
- Blood glucose management — specific formula to help manage post-prandial blood glucose levels in diabetic dogs
- High protein — supports maintenance of muscle mass, which is essential in diabetic dogs
- EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids — now sourced from algal oil as a sustainable and effective alternative to fish oil
As always, we recommend checking with your veterinarian before making any changes to your pet's prescription diet.

Royal Canin Feline Care Loaf Update
Royal Canin is retiring two loaf recipes from the Feline Care wet food range: Digestive Care Loaf and Hair & Skin Loaf. Both are moving to new textures within the same targeted nutrition lines, so your cat can keep getting the support they need.
These are texture changes rather than diet changes, but we know cats can be particular about how their food looks and feels. If your cat is a picky eater, introduce the new texture gradually alongside their current food rather than swapping cold turkey.

Ensure a Gradual Transition
Because your dog is moving from the Diabetic diet to the new Glycobalance formula, we recommend transitioning gradually over a minimum of 7 days to avoid any dietary upsets. A new recommendation from your veterinarian is required before purchasing Glycobalance.
To make this transition possible, we recommend keeping approximately a week's worth of the current Diabetic diet in reserve.
