EQUIMEC Wormer Paste

Equimec Wormer Paste

Suitable for: Horses as part of a regular parasite control program.

In 2017, Merial merged with Boehringer Ingelheim to become a leader in equine health. Formulating a range of parasiticides, pharmaceuticals and vaccines, Merial focuses on preventative animal healthcare with a passion for enriching the human-animal bond and herd-health productivity.

Merial Equimec Paste is a broad-spectrum worming paste for horses and is effective in the treatment and control of roundworms, bots and skin lesions caused by Habronema and Draschia spp, and cutaneous larvae (summer sores) by Onchocerca spp. For a full list of parasites covered, please see below.

  • Broad-spectrum worming paste for horses
  • Effective against benzimadazole-resistant worms
  • For the treatment and control of internal parasites
  • Low dose volume for quick and easy dosing
  • Wide safety margin
  • Safe to use in pregnant and lactating mares and breeding stallions
  • Does not control tapeworm

Directions for use: Each syringe (6.42g) treats 600kg bodyweight. Adjust the dosage control knob to your horses bodyweight, lock in place and press plunger. For example, for a 100kg horse, administer 1.07g. Insert the syringe into the side of the horses mouth in the gap between the front and back teeth. Advance the plunger as far as it will go, press the plunger to the chosen dosage, depositing the medication on the rear of the tongue. Immediately raise the horse?s head for a few seconds after dosing to ensure the full dose has been swallowed.

Merial Equimec paste is effective in the treatment and control of common worms and bots including:

  • Large strongyles (Strongylus vulgaris, Strongylus edentatus, Strongylus equinus and Triodontophorus spp.)
  • Small strongyles including benzimidazole resistant strains (Cyathostomum spp., Cylicocyclus spp., Cylicostephanus spp., Cylicodontophorus spp., Gyalocephalus spp.)
  • Pinworms (Oxyuris equi)
  • Large roundworms (Ascards)
  • Hairworms (Trichostrongylus axei)
  • Lungworms (Dictyocaulus arnfieldi)
  • Intestinal and neck threadworms (Strongyloides westeri, Onchocerca spp.)
  • Bots (Gasterophilus spp.)
  • Also controls skin lesions caused by Habronema and Draschia spp, and cutaneous larvae (summer sores) by Onchocerca spp.
  • Does not treat tapeworm

Did you know...

In combination with good pasture and herd management practices, a rotational worming strategy can help to combat the development of worm resistance to anthelminthic drugs and reduce the overall amount of worming treatments that are required. Rotational worming involves rotating the class of active ingredient in the wormer being used on an annual basis, most commonly rotating between a macrocylic lactone (mectin) product and a benzimadazole product. To determine a suitable worming strategy for your horse, talk to your equine veterinarian or ask a Pet Circle vet for more information.
