ROYAL CANIN VETERINARY DIET Dental Dry Dog Food

Royal Canin Dental is formulated to reduce dental plaque and tartar formation to help maintain your dogs oral health.

Over 80% of dogs get dental disease by the time they reach the age of three. The most common symptom noticed by owners is bad or fishy smelling breath. However, many owners arent aware their dogs have dental disease until they are shown by their vet.

Dental disease begins when bacteria, food particles and saliva combine to form a substance called plaque. Plaque adheres to the surface of the tooth, including underneath the gums. If it is not removed mechanically by brushing or chewing, plaque reacts with calcium in the saliva to form a hard, yellowish material known as tartar. The bacteria living under the gumline creates inflammation of the gums, also known as gingivitis. If left untreated, the bacteria invade even deeper into the soft tissues and bone surrounding the tooth.

The chronic inflammation from dental disease has negative effects far beyond bad breath. It can also cause damage to the heart, kidneys and liver. Dental disease is painful for your pet, and ultimately results in the loss of teeth and shortening of their life span.

Your pets teeth should be checked by your vet every 6-12 months. If you think that your pet may have dental disease, take them to your vet for a check-up. Treatment for dental disease usually involves cleaning the teeth, including under the gums, under general anaesthetic. Simply removing the tartar on the teeth is not enough to fix the problem, as the bacteria will persist in the plaque below the gums. Once your dog?s teeth have been given a clean bill of health, Royal Canin Dental can play an important role in your dog?s dental disease prevention program.

Royal Canin Dental works to reduce plaque and tartar build up on your dogs teeth in two different ways. Firstly, the kibble act to mechanically grind the plaque off the teeth thanks to their unique size, texture and shape. In addition, Royal Canin Dental also contains sodium polyphosphates, which bind calcium in the saliva to reduce tartar formation.

Royal Canin Dental is a balanced and complete diet with added nutrition to help keep your dog happy and healthy. It has added glucosamine, chondroitin and omega-3 fatty acids for joint health, as well as highly digestible proteins, prebiotics, and fish oil for help with digestive health.
