The 2025 Pet Circle Australian Jumping Championships at Boneo Park have come to a close, and what a week it was! Despite wet conditions and a field of fierce competitors, the standard of riding was nothing short of world-class. As the naming rights sponsor, Pet Circle was on the ground to witness the highs, the lows, and the incredible bond between horse and rider.
To understand what it takes to reach the pinnacle of the sport, Pet Circle’s Dr. Teagan caught up with two of the event's standout performers: the newly crowned 2025 Senior Australian Champion, Tom McDermott, and seasoned showjumping veteran, Billy Raymont.
The Champion's Top Picks
Tom McDermott: The Winning Formula
Taking out the Senior Championship title is no small feat, especially when the weather adds an extra layer of difficulty. Reflecting on his win in the wet conditions, Tom McDermott remained humble, attributing the victory to the collective effort of his stable.
"It's a very tough competition. It came really down to the line," Tom told Dr. Teagan. "I couldn't be any more thankful for my whole team, my horse, my owners, all my supporters. It's been a great day for us all."
When it comes to fueling his horses for such demanding performances, Tom values loyalty and proven results. He has been a long-time advocate for Ranvet, a brand synonymous with Australian racing and performance.
"I've been supported by Ranvet supplements for 12 plus years now. My horses thrive off it," Tom explained. "I use all of their supplements, and I swear by it."
Billy Raymont: Planning and Prevention
For Billy Raymont, success in the ring is the result of meticulous planning that begins long before the horse enters the arena. When asked about his mental preparation, Billy revealed that there is no "off switch" for a top-level rider.
"The mental side never ever stops," Billy shared. "We're always challenging ourselves mentally, trying to make sure that we have everything right with the horses... always planning from a long time out."
Part of that planning involves a proactive approach to joint health. Billy relies on 4CYTE to keep his team sound and comfortable.
"We try to use it as a preventative. All our good horses are on it quite early," he noted. "Probably what I like about the 4CYTE the most is it's administered daily. So, it's a nice even spill that they get... they really like the product, so it's quite easy to give."
Consistency is Key
Both riders highlighted that at this level, consistency is everything. You cannot afford gaps in nutrition or care. This is where the logistics of stable management become crucial. Billy noted the immense pressure of managing a competitive team and the value of systems that ensure supplies never run out.
"It's a huge job managing everything," Billy admitted. "To know that we have them coming regularly and that we don't have to think about making sure we order on time... is super important. At the level that we're competing, they can't afford to miss a day."
This is why many competitive riders are turning to Auto Delivery services. By setting up a recurring order for essentials like Ranvet or 4CYTE, riders can focus on what they do best - winning in the ring - knowing their feed room is always stocked.
The takeaway
Success at the elite level, whether in the showjumping arena or simply keeping your cherished horse comfortable in their daily life, boils down to a commitment to consistent, high-quality care. As top riders Tom McDermott and Billy Raymont prove, their winning formula includes meticulous planning and never missing a beat when it comes to nutrition and joint health. By learning from the best and implementing reliable systems, like having essential supplies on Auto Delivery, you can give your horse the consistent support they need to thrive.
