Hills Prescription Diet a/d Urgent care is formulated for the nutritional support of cats and dogs recovering from serious illness and injury.
When recovering from illness and injury, the body requires high levels of energy and essential nutrients to support healing and recovery as well as maintaining a healthy immune system. Inadequate nutrition, particularly during periods of illness, results in reduced production of T lymphocytes, and decreased effectiveness of other white blood cells. This causes suppression of the immune system, leaving the body susceptible to infection and therefore increasing the risk of disease. Amino acids, carbohydrates and energy are essential for tissue synthesis and repair, meaning that without adequate nutrition pets with injuries or illness may have slower rates of recovery and healing. Nutrients from a balanced diet are also necessary to ensure that normal cellular functions take place. If deficiencies are present it can result in impaired metabolism of drugs by the liver, reduced transport of drug molecules through the bloodstream and decreased blood flow to the kidneys. These changes can result in drugs being less effective, or conversely increase the risk of overdose and side effects.
Unfortunately many dogs and cats do not show an interest in eating when they are unwell, causing them to miss out on the vital nutrition that they need to recover. a/d Urgent care is formulated to be highly palatable to both cats and dogs, and has a soft consistency to aid feeding via syringe or feeding tube if required. It contains highly digestible proteins and extra calories to aid wound and tissue healing as well as supporting the immune system to help your pet recover sooner. A/d is also supplemented with increased levels of potassium, as dogs and cats that have severe illness are prone to potassium depletion, especially if they have a reduced appetite.
