Hills Prescription Diet Td Small Bites Dental Care Dry Dog Food

Hills Prescription t/d Canine Dental Health Small Bites is specially formulated for small dogs to keep their teeth clean and maintain good oral health.

Over 80% of dogs will have dental disease by the time they reach the age of three, the most common symptom noticed by owners is bad or fishy smelling breath. Dental disease begins when bacteria, food particles and saliva combine to form a substance called plaque. Plaque adheres to the surface of the tooth, including underneath the gums. If it is not removed mechanically by cleaning or chewing, plaque reacts with minerals in the saliva to form a hard, yellow material known as tartar. As the bacteria in the plaque sits underneath the gums, it creates inflammation of the gums, also known as gingivitis. Left untreated, the bacteria invade into the soft tissues and bone surrounding the tooth. The chronic inflammation from dental disease has negative effects far beyond bad breath. It can also cause damage to the heart, kidneys and liver. Dental disease is painful for your pet, and ultimately results in the loss of teeth and shortening of their life span.

If you think that your pet may have dental disease, take them to your vet for a check-up. Treatment for dental disease usually involves cleaning of the teeth, including under the gums, under general anaesthetic. Simply removing the tartar on the teeth is not enough to fix the problem, as the bacteria will still persist in the plaque below the gums. Once your pets teeth have been given a clean bill of health, it is important that you start them on a preventative program. A major part of dental prevention involves using mechanical abrasion to remove plaque build up daily from the teeth. This is the same reason that we humans need to clean our teeth every day!

One way to help prevent plaque and tartar build up in your pets mouth is to use Hills Prescription Diet t/d. Unlike normal hard kibbles that crumble when your pet bites into them, t/d has a unique fibre complex in the kibble causing it to hold together when bitten into. This cleans the plaque from your pets teeth every time they chew. T/d has been clinically proven to reduce plaque, stain and tartar buildup and has been awarded with the Veterinary Oral Health Council Seal of Acceptance for helping to remove plaque and tartar. Because t/d will remove plaque from your pets mouth on a daily basis, it actively reduces bad breath. T/d is a complete and balanced diet that also contains added antioxidants to promote a healthy immune system. T/d Small Bites has a smaller kibble size, perfect for small breed dogs.
